How To Save Video Streams To Hard Drive With VLC
One of the really cool features of VLC is that it can play many types of streams, even internet tv, and radio streams. If you ever wanted to save some of these streams to hard drive, there's a way to convert it for you in VLC. Here's how:
Step 1. If you already know the stream url, skip to
Step 3. Alternatively, you can browse the shoutcase tv listing from VLC for video streams. Go to Playlist. Then in Playlist window, go to: Manage->Services Discovery->Shoutcast Tv listing.
Step 2. Go to Shoutcast TV and pick a stream, right click and go to info. There you can get the URL of the stream.
Step 3. Open up a new VLC, and choose: File->Open Network Stream. Then choose HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS and paste in the URL. Under "Advance option", check Stream/Save and go into Settings.
Step 4. Choose "File", and name where you want to save the file. For Encapsulation Method, there are many ways you can save the file. I chose "MP4", and check "Video codec" and "Audio codec". I left the video on "mp4v" and audio on "mpga".
Step 5. Say ok and let it play. If you want to watch the stream, open up another VLC and find your channel. That's it. Have fun.
